Covering one name does not anonymize an entire screenshot. The name may also appear in a tab or notification, and an order number or QR code can reveal other details. Review the complete file that you will share.
List what needs covering
Check names, email, addresses, phone numbers and account identifiers, along with URLs, searches, notifications, order and booking numbers. A QR code or barcode is not harmless merely because you cannot read it at a glance.
Cover generously with a solid color
The redactor replaces pixels inside rectangles with an opaque color. Leave enough room that no letter strokes remain outside the edge. After covering one region, check for the same information elsewhere.
Share the result, not the original
Download the PNG, open it separately and zoom in. Keep filenames clear so you do not attach an original or an earlier draft by mistake. Not copying original EXIF is separate from removing information visible in the picture.
Keep only the screen area the recipient needs. Remove unnecessary surroundings with the crop tool, then cover private details that remain.
Example: sharing an order error
The recipient needs the error message, but not your name, address or order number.
Steps
- Crop away unrelated parts of the screen.
- Cover the name, address and order number with solid rectangles.
- Open the result PNG and recheck notifications, tabs and QR codes for repeated information.
Result
Share a file that keeps the error context but covers unnecessary details. For sensitive material, review the attachment preview immediately before sending.
Frequently asked questions
Can the tool certify that everything is hidden?
No. There is no automatic private-data detection or anonymity check. Review everything outside the covered rectangles yourself.
