How to use the tool

  1. Prepare the source

Choose a logo or symbol. Thin lines and small text may disappear at 16px.

  2. Set name and colors

Set the app name, theme, background and regular icon padding. The maskable icon uses its own safe padding.

  3. Add the package to your site

Extract the ZIP at your site root and add the tags in integration.html to your head. Adjust links and manifest paths for subdirectory deployments.

Why both ICO and PNG?

favicon.ico contains three PNG images at 16, 32 and 48px. A 180px image is included for Apple touch icons, with 192/512px manifest icons. Different browsers and installation contexts use different files.

Maskable icons and the manifest

The maskable asset fits the artwork into a central square 56% of the canvas width, inside the central safe circle. The manifest describes the name, start URL, display and icons; it does not implement a service worker or offline behavior.

Current limitations

  • JPG · PNG · WebP / up to 40 MB and 16 MP / no animation or rotation metadata
  • Dimensions must be positive integers, up to 8,192px per edge and 16 MP.
  • Convert SVG to PNG with SVG finisher before importing.
  • Generated paths assume deployment at the site root.
  • Generated files alone do not guarantee installability or offline support.

Questions about the image tool

Is ICO different from PNG?

ICO is a container for multiple icon sizes. This tool embeds three PNG sizes in one ICO.

Why is the maskable artwork smaller?

It leaves room so the main artwork survives circular or rounded-square masks applied by the operating system.

Why does the old icon still appear?

Check the file paths and head tags first. Browsers can cache old icons; also test in a new tab or a separate profile.
