How to use the tool

  1. Choose an image

Select or drop a PNG, JPEG, or WebP still image. HEIC, SVG, and animated images are not supported.

  2. Set the frame

Enter a width or height with the ratio locked, or choose a crop ratio and position the crop area.

  3. Choose the output

Pick PNG, JPEG, or WebP. JPEG and WebP also have a quality control.

  4. Download and check

Download the new file, open it at full size, and confirm its dimensions, detail, and file size before publishing.

Dimensions and aspect ratio

Locking the aspect ratio lets you change one dimension while the other is calculated automatically. This prevents the image from being stretched.

Making a small source larger adds pixels by interpolation; it does not restore lost sharpness or texture. Start with a source at least as large as the intended output when possible.

Cropping to a new shape

Use cropping when the destination frame has a different shape from the source. Move the crop so that faces, products, logos, and useful surrounding space stay inside it.

Cropping removes pixels outside the selected area. Keep the original file if you may need another composition later.

Format and output quality

PNG is a dependable choice for transparency and sharp interface graphics. JPEG usually suits photographs, while WebP can work well for either photos or transparent web artwork.

Quality values are relative and browser encoders can differ. Compare the downloaded files rather than assuming the same number produces the same result everywhere.

Current limitations

  • GIF files and animated PNG or WebP images are not supported.
  • HEIC and SVG input is not supported.
  • Images with non-default orientation metadata are not supported.
  • Input is limited to 40MB, 32,768px per side, and 32 megapixels; output is limited to 8,192px per side and 16 megapixels.
  • Exports are newly encoded and do not copy EXIF, location, orientation, or other source metadata.
  • The exact file size and fine detail can vary between browser encoders.
  • Very large images may be limited by the memory available to the browser and device.

Questions about the image tool

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The selected image is decoded, edited, and encoded in your browser. PolishTools does not receive the file.

Why did the metadata disappear?

The downloaded image is a new browser-generated file. Source metadata such as EXIF camera data, location, and some colour information is not copied to it.

Can I resize an animated GIF or WebP?

No. This tool does not accept animated images. Use a frame-aware animation editor when motion needs to remain intact.

Why does the file size differ between browsers?

Browsers can use different encoders for JPEG and WebP. The same dimensions and quality setting may therefore produce slightly different files.
