How to use the tool

  1. Load the original

Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP. Check its dimensions and filename above the preview.

  2. Set size and quality

Choose a maximum long edge and format. JPEG/WebP support quality adjustment. Enter a target in KB to search for a suitable quality.

  3. Compare and download

Generate the result and compare the byte sizes. Inspect text and edges in the downloaded image before using it.

Before you export

Dimensions and quality are different

The maximum long edge scales down without changing the aspect ratio; it never enlarges the source. Quality changes how much information the encoder preserves at those dimensions, so small text can develop artifacts.

When the target is missed

For JPEG/WebP, the tool searches between 10% and your selected quality. A notice appears if the target is still exceeded. PNG needs smaller dimensions or another format instead of a quality search.

Current limitations

  • JPG · PNG · WebP / up to 40 MB and 16 MP / no animation or rotation metadata
  • Dimensions must be positive integers, up to 8,192px per edge and 16 MP.
  • One file at a time; no batch compression.
  • PNG/WebP retain transparency. JPEG fills transparent areas with the chosen background.
  • An output can be larger than its source. Encoder results vary between browsers.

Questions about the image tool

Will every file get smaller?

No. Re-encoding an efficient file can make it larger. Compare the sizes and keep the original if it is better.

Does quality 80 mean 80% of the original?

No. It is an encoder setting, not a percentage of perceived quality or file size.

Is camera location data retained?

Original EXIF/GPS data is not copied. Addresses or names visible in the picture remain and need a separate review.
